Match the travel to the terrain: XC bikes use about 100–130mm for efficient climbs, trail and downcountry sit around 120–150mm for balanced up/down performance, and enduro runs 160–180mm for aggressive descents. That helps you decide whether you want a climb-focused XC machine or a descent-oriented enduro rig.

Larger batteries (500–750Wh) provide the best real-world range, often 30–100 miles depending on assist level and terrain. Motors around 85–90Nm from Bosch, Shimano, or Brose deliver strong climbing help while peak system power can approach 750W.

Carbon frames shave weight and make sub-50lb complete bikes easier to achieve, while aluminum emphasizes durability for rough use and impacts. Check for reinforced downtubes for battery protection and IP54+ battery ratings when water resistance and ruggedness matter.

Sizing depends on your height, inseam, and preferred reach; medium frames commonly feature 420–500mm reach and standover heights near 28–32 inches. Test rides confirm effective top tube feel, and many higher-end models include adjustable geometry chips to fine-tune head angle and stack.

Look for practical upgrades like tunable assist modes, 150–200mm dropper posts, mullet wheel options, and app connectivity for custom tuning. Models such as the Specialized Turbo Levo and Trek Rail highlight high-capacity batteries (700–750Wh) and premium suspension for aggressive trail and enduro use.
