Kids' Alpine Skis

A good rule of thumb is to size kids' skis between the child's chest and nose. Length selection also depends on height, weight, ability, and intended use, and skis with adjustable bindings help accommodate growth while maintaining safe release characteristics.

For learning across the mountain, all-mountain skis provide balanced performance on different snow and terrain, making them ideal for developing skiers. If your child wants to focus on jumps or deep snow, consider park and freestyle skis or freeride models; brands like Salomon and the Volkl Mantra Jr. cover those different needs.

Yes, adjustable bindings lengthen the useful life of a child's skis and help maintain proper release characteristics as boot size changes. Packages like the Blizzard Pearl Jr. that come with Marker 7.0 bindings show how matched bindings and skis can be set up for safe growth.

Durability and glide come from a wood core with steel edges and sidewalls, combined with a sintered base that absorbs wax and improves speed. Rubber sidewalls and metal hardware increase abrasion resistance so skis hold up through repeated use.

Race-specific skis are best for kids in competitive programs because they're engineered for speed and precision on groomed courses. Pay attention to a ski's radius in meters and its flex rating, and consider race geometry in models like the Dynastar Speed OMG Team SL R21; FIS compliance signals performance testing for racing.
