Snowboard Traction

Rubber mats offer the largest surface area and the most popular, flexible option, foam pads give extra cushioning, studs deliver aggressive grip, and hard PVC or metal pieces provide rugged traction. Think about the riding you do most and the balance between grip, flexibility, and durability when choosing.

Place the pad just behind the rear binding so your back foot sits naturally when popping out of the binding; that position also keeps it clear of turn and spin arcs. Flexible rubber pads are useful because they conform to board flex and reduce interference during tricks.

There’s no universal sizing, but pads come in small to large surface areas to match boot size and board width; many mats cover roughly 6–12 inches of surface area. Match a larger pad to wider boards or bigger boots, and consider brands like Dakine that offer multiple size options.

For park and freestyle work, rubber mats excel thanks to their flexibility and ability to conform during jumps and presses, while studs or aggressive-texture pads are better for icy, slippery approaches. Crab Grab models are noted for especially grippy textures that help when conditions get slick.

Materials and construction are designed to withstand park impacts and repeated lift use without peeling, with adhesion made for snow and cold conditions. Metal or PVC pads give the most rugged longevity, and NeverSummer rubber stomp pads are known for park-friendly durability and flex conformity.
