A snug but not painful fit is best—kids should be able to flex their toes without cramping because climbing shoes are meant to fit tighter than street shoes. Helmets certified to CE EN 12492 and weighing roughly 200–300g offer a balance of protection and comfort for kids. Those specs are appropriate for gym climbs, crags, and bouldering, and a lightweight certified shell helps keep youngsters comfortable on longer sessions.

Use crash pads whenever kids are bouldering outdoors, especially on uneven rock or sloped landings where a pad evens out the landing surface. Pads are designed to absorb impacts and work best paired with attentive spotters and a helmet for added safety.

Padded waistbelts and quick-adjust buckles make it easy to get a snug, supportive fit quickly, which reduces pressure points during long sessions; harnesses in the 300–500g range balance comfort with low weight.
