Kids Gray' Climb

For toddlers and new climbers, a full-body harness keeps the torso secure and helps prevent inversion; models like the Edelrid Fraggle are available in XXS for very small kids. Older children who are comfortable on rope often prefer sit harnesses with padded waistbelts and leg loops adjustable 12–22 inches for waists around 20–28 inches, and all kids' harnesses should meet EN 12277/UIAA type C standards.

A snug but not painful fit is best—kids should be able to flex their toes without cramping because climbing shoes are meant to fit tighter than street shoes. For bouldering and gym sessions, a 4/4 down-turned last and rubber randing like Vibram XS Grip2 (3.5–4mm) provide the precision and edging control young climbers need.

Helmets certified to CE EN 12492 and weighing roughly 200–300g offer a balance of protection and comfort for kids. Those specs are appropriate for gym climbs, crags, and bouldering, and a lightweight certified shell helps keep youngsters comfortable on longer sessions.

Use crash pads whenever kids are bouldering outdoors, especially on uneven rock or sloped landings where a pad evens out the landing surface. Pads are designed to absorb impacts and work best paired with attentive spotters and a helmet for added safety.

Padded waistbelts and quick-adjust buckles make it easy to get a snug, supportive fit quickly, which reduces pressure points during long sessions; harnesses in the 300–500g range balance comfort with low weight. Models like the Black Diamond Kids Momentum earn high comfort scores for all-day wear, and lighter padded options such as the Petzl Macchu (about 330g) suit active kids who need a less bulky setup.
