Orange Mountain Bike Full Face Helmets

Think about the type of riding you do: standard full-face models with fixed chin bars give maximum protection for high-speed downhill and freeride, while lightweight enduro full-faces trade some bulk for better airflow on long climbs. Polycarbonate or carbon-fiber shells affect durability and weight, and hybrid removable chin bar helmets let you switch between protection and pedaling comfort.

For downhill and gravity riding, prioritize helmets that meet ASTM F1952 and consider models that also carry CPSC or EN ratings for broader protection. Rotational-impact systems like MIPS or SPIN are useful extras to help reduce rotational forces during impacts.

A proper fit should feel snug and secure without pressure points, so measure head circumference and try pads to confirm sizing. Adjustable features such as Roc Loc dials, rear ring adjustments, and padding inserts help dial in fit, goggle integration, and all-day comfort.

Yes, high-quality removable-chin-bar helmets like the Giro Switchblade MIPS are designed to provide downhill-level coverage when the chin bar is locked in place while allowing open-face comfort on climbs. Always check that the chin bar locks securely and that the model carries the certifications you need for your riding.

Ventilation and weight both matter for long rides because better airflow reduces heat buildup and lighter shells lessen neck fatigue during climbs. Look for designs with 18–29 vents or large intake/exhaust ports; for example, the Dainese Linea 01 MIPS offers 29 vents and about 570 grams in size M to balance cooling and coverage.
