Men's Green Trail Running Shoes

Match the shoe to the terrain: light-trail suits groomed paths and gravel while rugged-trail is better on technical, rocky singletrack. Road-to-trail models like the Nike Pegasus Trail 5 work well when your run shifts from pavement to dirt.

Most trail shoes run true to your road size, so start with your usual fit and try wide options if your feet swell on long outings. Check toe box width for comfort and heel lockdown for stability, and note that some brands like Altra offer a 0mm toe-to-heel drop with extra room up front.

On rocky, technical singletrack look for deeper lugs around 4–5mm paired with sticky rubber such as Vibram Megagrip or Contagrip for confident traction. If you spend more time on smoother singletrack or mixed terrain, models like the Saucony Peregrine 16/15 with balanced 3–4mm lugs offer a grippy but versatile feel.

If you prefer a natural forefoot strike, a 0mm zero-drop shoe from Altra can help, while runners wanting a bit more heel cushion often choose 6–8mm drops seen in Salomon geometry. Consider stack height too—options range from low ~20–25mm for a connected feel up to 35mm+ maximal cushioning for long days on soft terrain.

Protection features like rock plates do add some stiffness and a bit of mass but greatly reduce stone bruising on technical routes. Many shoes balance that by using lighter foams such as PWRRUN or nitrogen-infused midsoles so weights often stay in the 8–12 oz range while quick-lace systems deliver fast, secure fit-ups.
