Basecamp warmth and couloir-ready mobility meet in the Stretchdown Light Pant

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I have been using the Stretchdown Light Pant as my go-to cold belay layer and base camp pant all season, and the narrow baffle construction makes it slim enough to pull on over a base layer without any bunching or bulk around the knees. The stretch woven fabric moves completely naturally when I am kicking steps or scrambling, which is something I cannot say about most insulated pants."

Cold legs are one of the fastest ways to end a good day in the mountains, and the Mountain Hardwear Stretchdown Light Pant makes sure that does not happen. Built on the same Stretchdown platform as the best-selling jacket series, it brings 700-fill RDS certified down insulation to the lower body in a narrow baffle construction specifically designed for low-profile layering over a base layer without the bulk that typically comes with insulated pants.

The 20D durable stretch doubleweave fabric moves with complete freedom through the full range of alpine movement, from high steps on steep couloirs to dynamic moves on technical rock without pulling, binding, or restricting at the hip or knee. An integrated adjustable webbing belt and snap front closure with zippered fly keep the fit dialed and functional in cold conditions when dexterity is limited, while elastic cuffs seal warmth at the ankles and prevent cold air from creeping up the leg. Soft-lined open top hand pockets provide warmth during stationary moments at the belay or around the fire, and hook-and-loop rear patch pockets keep small essentials secure through active movement. At just 13.1 ounces with only 2.3 ounces of insulation keeping the profile lean, the Stretchdown Light Pant is the lower body layer that earns its place on any cold weather objective without adding meaningful weight to the pack.
