Women's Purple Softshell Jackets

Active softshells prioritize breathability (often over 20,000 g/m²/24hr) and lighter weight toward the lower end of the 10–20 oz range for fast-moving sports. Technical models emphasize higher water resistance up to 10,000mm and abrasion-resistant faces with taped seams for backcountry use, while casual options focus on comfort and everyday wear.

Most softshells come in XS–XXL and are offered in slim athletic or regular profiles, so you may want to size up if you plan to wear a thick mid layer. Look for stretch panels at the shoulders and articulated elbows—models like the Marmot Tempo include 4-way stretch and a slightly roomier torso to make layering easier.

For high-output activities choose an active softshell that emphasizes breathability (over 20,000 g/m²/24hr) and low weight, with many options falling in the 10–20 oz range. Features like zip chest vents and grid-fleece backs help dump heat, and lightweight designs such as the Black Diamond Distance Wind Shell are tuned for uphill efforts.

Many technical softshells offer DWR treatments, water resistance up to 10,000mm, and dense weaves that block wind while remaining breathable for quick tours. For variable alpine conditions consider a breathable, weatherproof option like the Outdoor Research Ultima Hooded that balances protection with ventilation.

Durability comes from a 100% ripstop nylon shell and abrasion-resistant face fabrics combined with bonded layers and a fleece or grid-fleece backing for warmth and wicking. Fully taped seams in premium builds, stretch weaves, and 4-way stretch panels increase tear resistance and maintain mobility on rough terrain.
