Gray Whitewater Kayaks

Match the kayak to the water: river runners work well on continuous fast rivers, creek boats handle steep, low-volume drops, and playboats are for waves and tricks. Models like the Jackson Antix 3.0 blend play and river running, while the Jackson Rockstar V is built for aerial moves.

Fit depends on your height, weight, and skill; smaller paddlers often need low-volume boats while larger paddlers choose higher-volume for stability. Try cockpit sizing for legroom and a sprayskirt seal, and consider lengths between 6 and 9 feet to match handling preferences.

Hull shape and rocker control how the boat turns and boofs: planing hulls and high rocker help with quick turns and skimming waves, while displacement hulls track and pivot differently. A semi-displacement river runner gives a middle ground for speed and responsiveness.
