Triathlon / TT Bikes

Think about your typical race and terrain: road bikes with clip-on aerobars suit beginners, training, commuting and hilly courses, while standard tri frames with mid-depth aero tubesets perform well for 70.3 or Ironman on flat to rolling routes. Superbikes with deep-section tubesets prioritize aerodynamics for flat time trials, and models like the Cervelo P‑Series offer straightforward service with mid-depth options when you want balance.

Yes — a professional fit is strongly recommended because tri/TT geometry commonly uses steeper seat tube angles, often 76–78 degrees, that push your hips forward over the crank for more quad power and a smoother run transition. Geometry also shifts by rider size, so bigger riders may prefer non-integrated frames for adjustability while smaller or mechanically savvy riders often opt for superbikes.

Deep-section rims reduce aerodynamic drag and help hold speed on flat courses, but high-profile wheels (around 40–80mm) are more sensitive to crosswinds than mid-depth options. Many racers choose a deep front and shallower rear or mid-depth carbon rims to balance straight-line speed and stable handling.

Hydraulic discs tend to provide more consistent braking and modulation over long distances like a 70.3 or the 112-mile Ironman, which can be helpful in varied weather or technical descents. Rim-brake setups remain common on standard tri bikes for simplicity and serviceability, so match the brake type to your preferred wheels and groupset—options include Shimano Ultegra or SRAM Rival and electronic shifting.

Expect adjustable TT/aero bars for arm width, angle and reach plus integrated hydration and nutrition storage so you can carry race essentials without ruining aerodynamics. Models such as the Canyon Speedmax CF offer customizable cockpits and frame-integrated storage, and many bikes include onboard tool compartments for quick roadside checks.
