Toddler Girls' Green Baselayer Bottoms

For cold-weather play, wool-heavy merino bottoms are the best choice because merino provides superior warmth-to-weight and natural breathability — the 200 gsm, 18.9-micron wool stays warm without overheating. Smartwool Merino Bottoms are a good example of a breathable merino option made for active winter use.

Make sure the fit is snug like a second skin so moisture wicks away instead of getting trapped under snow pants; true-to-size sizing is usually better than sizing up. Look for flatlock seams and an easy pull-on elastic waistband (some 2T waists measure about 8.5 inches) and check inseam lengths — skinny builds often have inseams near 13.5 inches.

Merino wool often outperforms synthetics in cold, offering superior warmth-to-weight and breathability that helps during sweaty exertion; a 200 gsm merino will feel warmer than similarly weighted synthetics. Synthetics can still be great for high-energy kids because they dry quickly and many have antimicrobial treatments to control odor.

Yes — lightweight synthetic multisport bottoms frequently include UPF 50+ for sun protection, making them well suited to summer hikes and playground days. REI Co-op Midweight Bottoms also combine recycled fabric with UPF 50+ if you want a slightly heavier option that still guards against sun exposure.

Synthetic blends are built for frequent wear and care, with many maintaining performance for up to 30 washes and carrying antimicrobial finishes to stay fresh. You can also find sustainably made options like the 87% recycled polyester/13% spandex styles that are bluesign certified for durable, eco-conscious construction.
