Blue Roof Rack Accessories

For wet-weather camping and ski gear a weatherproof cargo box keeps luggage and damp items contained and quieter on the road. Open cargo baskets like the Rhino-Rack Pioneer work better for bulky, irregular loads such as coolers or tires and often feature powder-coated steel and tie-down points every 12 inches.

Start by identifying your vehicle’s attachment type—bare roof, factory rails, or tracks—and select the correct towers, feet, clips, or a dedicated fit kit for that setup. Systems with tri-slot or T-slot bars, such as the Thule ProBar, and towers like the Thule Evo Clamp make it simple to add mounts and create extra overhang for accessory space.

Heavier fat‑tire e‑bikes benefit from tray-style carriers and reinforced clamps—models like the Yakima BaseLine are designed to accept fat tires and beefier frames. Upright carriers are typically quicker to load and don’t require fork removal, while fork‑mounts lower the profile but need a compatible fork or adapter.

Use dedicated cradles or saddles that match your boat’s hull shape and run ratchet or cam straps through the rack’s tie‑down points to prevent shifting. Aluminum crossbars with a wind fairing reduce drag and noise, and quick‑release mounts make loading a kayak or SUP easier at the put‑in.

For trades and heavy loads choose welded steel ladder racks or reinforced aluminum with powder-coated finishes for corrosion resistance and strength. Rooftop tents demand higher static capacity, so look for systems with robust tie-downs and bars rated for load—Yakima HD bars, for example, list dynamic ratings up to 165 lbs—plus modular T‑slot compatibility for accessories.
