Men's Blue Softshell Pants

Match the pant to the activity: single-knit, stretch-forward options work best for aerobic hiking and climbing in cool-to-mild weather, while mountaineering or touring cuts are built for high-output alpine days. Models like the Rab Falketind Flex1 are tuned for ski touring and tougher conditions, whereas the Proof Nomad Pant leans casual with a mid-weight 230 gsm nylon face.

Features like articulated knees and a gusseted crotch make a big difference for dynamic movement and avoid binding during climbs or scrambling. Pair those details with a 4-way stretch knit—examples such as the Lululemon ABC Slim Pant offer slim geometry plus the stretch you want for faster approaches.

Yes—softshells that prioritize windproofing and a durable DWR coating trade some membrane waterproofing for much better breathability, which helps on long touring efforts. Aim for mid-weight fabrics in the 230–240 gsm range and check DWR levels (C0–C6) to fend off light snow while shedding moisture.

Sizing typically runs standard S–XXL, so check offered inseam lengths (commonly 30–34 inches) and the pant geometry—slim, regular, or relaxed—against your build and intended use. If you have an athletic shape, consider regular or articulated cuts with gusseted crotches to preserve knee articulation and avoid tightness when bending.

Single-knit softshells offer superior breathability for aerobic spring and fall hikes, while mid-weight double-weave options with a brushed inner fleece deliver extra warmth and comfort. Look for nylon or polyester faces and fabrics around 230 gsm, and consider UPF-treated lighter models if sun protection matters on exposed routes.
