Men's Green Hike & Camp Pants

Match the pant type to the conditions you expect: lightweight options (often 8–12 ounces) work best for warm day hikes, softshells are heavier and better for cool, higher-elevation treks, and tactical or heavy-duty pants prioritize abrasion resistance for rugged backcountry use. Convertible zip-off styles add versatility when temperatures change throughout the day.

Fit is about movement—choose a standard, tapered, or athletic/stretchy cut that suits your activity, and check inseam options from short to extra-long for proper hem length. Look for stretch content in the fabric (many pants have 10–20% spandex), plus features like a gusseted crotch and articulated knees to improve mobility.

Blends with higher nylon and spandex content increase durability and stretch; for example, the Outdoor Research Ferrosi uses an 86% nylon / 14% spandex mix for a very mobile feel. That stretch helps on steep ascents and scrambling, while reinforced panels in some durable styles trade a bit of stretch for abrasion resistance.

Expect a DWR finish for light water shedding and options labeled UPF 50+ to protect against sun exposure during long days on trail. Zippered vents and moisture-wicking fabrics help regulate temperature, and cool-weather models like the Fjallraven Vidda Pro Ventilated add durability and breathability for chillier conditions.

Yes—convertible pants are a smart choice when you anticipate temperature swings, since they unzip into shorts for warm afternoons and return to pants for cool mornings. Models like the KUHL Renegade Convertible offer durable construction and true shorts functionality, making them useful for multi-day trips where pack space and versatility matter.
