Green Gravel & Cyclocross Tires

Clincher tires use an inner tube that hooks into the rim bead and are the most common, making them easy to install and repair. Tubeless tires eliminate the tube for better puncture resistance and lower rolling resistance, while tubular tires are stitched closed and glued to the rim for weight-conscious racers.

Gravel tires typically range from 33mm to 47mm and give extra volume for comfort on rough sections, while cyclocross racers often stick to the UCI limit of 700 x 33mm on race day. For pressures, expect roughly 30–50 PSI depending on tire width and surface; lower pressures boost traction on loose dirt and higher pressures improve speed on hardpack.

Mud benefits from spaced studs and reinforced bead-to-bead construction to shed debris and resist punctures, while sandy or dry courses favor more aggressive knobs for bite. Hardpack and fast mixed courses typically do best with lower-profile knobbies or semi-slick centers that prioritize rolling efficiency.

Tubeless-ready tires remove the inner tube and, when paired with rim tape and sealant, can reduce pinch flats and some punctures while lowering rolling resistance. Models like the Specialized Tracer Pro 2Bliss Ready highlight that tubeless setups are popular with cross-curious gravel riders in widths from 33mm to 47mm.

Reinforced casings and bead-to-bead puncture protection add durability and safer sidewall support on rough terrain, which is helpful if you ride rocky or rooty routes often. Heavier knobby tires can exceed 500 grams for extra rubber and protection, while lighter options under 400 grams favor speed; versatile choices like the Pirelli Cinturato Gravel Mixed balance durability and everyday gravel performance.
