Green Gravel & Cyclocross Frames

Adventure-focused gravel frames are built for multi-day bikepacking and include multiple rack and fender mounts to carry gear. Models like the Ritchey Ascent use TIG-welded triple-butted steel for added durability on long tours.

Gravel frames typically use a longer wheelbase and a more upright riding position to increase stability and reduce fatigue on rough descents. Cyclocross frames favor a shorter wheelbase and a higher, more aggressive position to boost responsiveness and quick cornering.

Steel is the dominant choice for gravel frames, often built from butted tubing that balances resilience with a lively ride feel. Titanium is the premium alternative and models like the Ritchey Outback pair durable steel construction with features like an all-carbon fork for added compliance.

Expect gravel frames to accommodate tires roughly from 35mm up to 50mm, and many support dual wheel sizes such as 700c and 650b for wider options. If you’re looking at cyclocross frames instead, plan for narrower clearances around 32–35mm geared toward speed.

Look for adventure-oriented gravel frames that advertise multiple rack and fender mounts and dedicated gear bosses for bikepacking setups. The Ritchey Ascent, for example, includes these mounts and wider tire compatibility, while race-focused frames like the Ritchey Swiss Cross typically omit mounts to save weight.
