For mixed gravel and bikepacking, shallower drops under about 120 mm and moderate flare keep transitions easy and your center of gravity stable. Carbon is worth considering if you want lighter weight and extra compliance, and many carbon bars are available in UD finishes with internal routing and weights around 200–350 g. Aluminum alloy (typically 6061) gives durable, stiff construction that usually weighs more—roughly 300–500 g—and stands up well to impacts and loaded touring.

Check the bar’s reach (typically 70–90 mm) and drop (110–130 mm) against your current cockpit so you don’t end up overreaching or too low on a bike with a steep head angle. If your frame has a steeper head tube, shorter reach and shallower drops usually pair better with the bike’s handling.

Look for multiple hand positions, ergonomic tops, and dedicated gear mounting points to reduce fatigue and secure lights or bags on long trips. Alternative flat or alt bars and rugged alloy adventure bars like the FSA A-WING AGX (about a 15° flare) are popular choices when you want durability and stable control under heavy loads.
