Girls' Blue Hike & Camp Baselayers

Think about your child's activity and the temperature: lightweight pieces suit aerobic hikes and warm days, midweight at about 150–180gsm balances warmth and breathability for cool trails, and heavyweight 200–260gsm is best for cold or multi-day trips. Try a midweight first for versatility and save heavyweights for consistently cold conditions.

Merino wool shines for breathability, odor resistance, and warmth when wet, with natural thermoregulation across roughly 0–50°F, so models like Iksplor Merino sets work well for multi-day use. Synthetics such as 90% polyester/10% elastane dry much faster and often cost less, though they can retain odors unless treated and many synthetics are guaranteed to 30 washes.

If your child is growing, aim for a close, flattering fit with enough stretch for movement—girls' geometries typically account for narrower shoulders and extra mobility. Sizes range from newborn to 12Y or XXS to XXL, and features like spandex-blend fabrics and flatlock seams help maintain comfort during climbing and long hikes.

Flatlock seams and thumb loops reduce chafing and improve coverage during contorted positions, and some hoodies include UPF sun protection for exposed days on the trail. The REI Co-op Midweight Crew is an example of a stretchy, durable build with those comfort-focused details.

Yes; pair a midweight or heavyweight baselayer with insulating mid layers to retain warmth, and favor merino wool when you expect damp conditions since it stays warm when wet and resists odor. For high-output days, add a lightweight, quick-drying synthetic layer to manage moisture.
