For multisport use, prioritize connected GPS with 10-20 hour tracking and water resistance around 30-50 meters, plus a readable 1.2-1.6 inch screen. Models like the Garmin Fenix 5 also add barometer and multi-day battery features useful for long rides or open-water swims.

Most everyday users fit adjustable bands that cover wrists roughly 130-220mm, and silicone or breathable fabric straps stand up to sweat and daily wear. Lighter designs under 50g help reduce bulk during long runs or all-day wear.

Chest straps excel when you need precise ECG, VO2, or lactate data for high-performance sessions like interval cycling or triathlon training. An armband is a good choice if you need a secure upper-arm fit, while wrist optical sensors are fine for general heart-rate and sleep monitoring.

Outdoor watches should offer at least 30m+ water resistance, sweat-proof seals, and sturdy cases in reinforced plastic or titanium to resist shocks and drops. Built-in altimeters, barometers, and an IP68-rated construction improve navigation and longevity in harsh conditions.

Battery and GPS capability vary by model, but many devices offer 10-20 hours of connected GPS tracking and general battery life up to 4-7 days on models like the Fitbit Versa. If you plan multi-hour adventures, prioritize watches advertised with extended GPS runtimes or multi-day battery modes.
