Green eAllroad Bikes

All-road bikes excel on paved roads, rough road shoulders, hardpack, and light gravel, making them great for after-work group rides and weekend bikepacking. Models like the Canyon Endurace Allroad combine 35mm Schwalbe G-One Speed tires and aluminum construction to balance speed and stability across mixed surfaces.

Plan on tires in the 32mm to 40mm range to get more stability than traditional road tires while retaining rolling efficiency on pavement. For example, some builds of the Canyon Endurace Allroad use 35mm Schwalbe G-One Speed tires, which handle hardpack and tarmac well.

Aluminum frames are common for durability and affordability, while carbon offers weight savings and better vibration damping for long rides. If you expect heavy loads or frequent rough roads, aluminum can be more robust; choose carbon if you prioritize lighter weight for faster climbs and reduced fatigue.

Most all-road frames include more mounting points for racks and fenders than pure road bikes, so they suit commuting and light bikepacking setups. Expect fewer mounts than a dedicated gravel frame, but models like the BMC Roadmachine X still accommodate racks and 32mm tires for touring.

Manufacturers favor 2x drivetrains to provide a wider, more closely spaced gear range that lets you spin efficiently on pavement while retaining climbing gears for unpaved climbs. The Salsa Warroad, available with gravel groupsets or the road-focused Shimano 105 Di2, illustrates how 2x gearing keeps road-like cadence options without sacrificing versatility.
