Selle Italia Bike

Frequently Asked Questions

• How do I choose the right Selle Italia saddle size using the IDMatch system and the width/cutout code?

Selle Italia uses a two-part code (width: S/Narrow, U/Universal, L/Wide) plus cutout (1 = closed, 2 = Flow small cutout, 3 = SuperFlow large cutout). Match sit bone width and pelvic rotation via the IDMatch classification (e.g., S3 for small sit bones with high rotation, L2 for larger sit bones with medium rotation) and prefer size 3 if you have excellent pelvic rotation or size 1–2 if you’re stiffer; a professional fit or IDMatch center measurement gives the most reliable result.
• What’s the difference between Gel Flow and SuperFlow, and which one should I choose?

Gel Flow pairs a gel layer with a central channel to absorb shocks and reduce perineal pressure, making it a strong all‑around choice for riders who need cushioning and pressure relief. SuperFlow features a deeper central cutout designed for very long distances and maximum perineal decompression. Choose Gel Flow for mixed or shorter rides and SuperFlow if you spend many hours in the saddle or consistently experience pressure on long rides.
• How does the SLR series compare to the SP‑01 Boost and the SLR TM for road riding?

The SLR series is Selle Italia’s lightweight, race‑oriented road platform focused on minimal weight and a performance shape, while the SP‑01 Boost is described as an aggressive model aimed at powerful riders who need a more performance‑driven contact area. The SLR TM is the endurance variant of SLR, offering more padding and a comfort‑focused geometry for long rides; pick SLR for racing, SP‑01 Boost for aggressive sprint/attack positions, and SLR TM when you prioritize all‑day comfort.
• Which saddle shape—flat, neutral, or waved—best suits my riding position and pelvic tilt?

Flat saddles suit dynamic riders with anterior pelvic tilt who move forward on the bike and need freedom of movement; neutral saddles balance mobility and stability for riders with a neutral pelvic tilt; waved saddles provide added stability for riders with posterior pelvic tilt or those who stay more static on long rides. Evaluate your habitual pelvic rotation during a bike fit or use IDMatch guidance to pick the shape that matches your posture and intended riding style.
• What do materials and construction choices—Ti 316 rails, carbon shells, Fibra‑Tek covers, and Flex Control—mean for comfort and durability?

Ti 316 titanium rails offer a good strength‑to‑weight ratio and vibration damping, while manganese or cromoly rails trade some weight savings for toughness on heavier‑duty use; carbon shells reduce weight and increase stiffness, whereas alloy shells add resilience. Fibra‑Tek covers provide weather resistance and low maintenance compared with leather, gel padding systems add localized shock absorption, and Flex Control integrates variable shell flex for improved damping; combine these features based on whether you prioritize lightweight performance (SLR/carbon + Ti rails) or durability and comfort (alloy shell + gel + Fibra‑Tek).
