A field repair tool that keeps a broken tent or pack from ending a trip early

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying:

"I've used one of these to resew a delaminating boot sole on a multi-day trip and it held for the rest of the week. The ergonomic grip makes it easier to push through thick materials than I expected, and having a backup needle stored inside the tool is a detail that matters when you're not near a hardware store. This is the kind of thing that lives in the bottom of a pack until it completely saves a trip."

A blown seam on a tent fly or a busted pack strap has a way of reframing a trip fast. The Patagonia Expedition Sewing Awl is the tool that keeps that moment from becoming a turning point.

Molded from 100% recycled nylon, the awl is built around an ergonomic grip that makes pushing through heavy materials like boot leather, packcloth, or tent fabric far less of a fight than improvised alternatives. It comes ready to work with a #23 industrial needle pre-installed, a backup needle stored inside the body, and 40 meters of grey recycled polyester thread pre-wound on a stainless steel bobbin. A rubber washer in the bobbin housing lets us dial in thread tension on the fly, so the stitch holds whether we're working through a single layer of nylon or stacking multiple materials. The drawcord keeps it clipped and findable in a gear pouch when everything else is getting rummaged through at camp.
