Start by matching the tank to the activity: casual racerbacks and basic tanks offer breathable comfort for everyday wear and light active days, while performance tanks provide quick-dry, breathable fabrics for running, hiking, and cycling. For a versatile active-casual option, the Destination Everywhere Tank uses recycled peached polyester for a soft, wearable feel.

Try your usual size first since the geometry favors lightweight, non-restrictive cuts and sizes range from XS to larger; XS typically has 2–3 options per brand. Dropped armholes and racerback styles add room for motion so you can layer under a jacket without feeling tight.

Modal blends and peached polyester deliver a super-soft skin feel, while recycled polyester versions boost durability for camping and multi-sport use. prAna performance tanks, for example, balance a soft hand with fabrics designed to withstand repeated wear.

Look for performance tanks with breathable, quick-dry fabrics and construction that emphasizes mobility, as racerback cuts and dropped armholes help during high-movement pursuits like trail runs or skiing. The Backcountry Racerback Tank is a good example of a breathable summer option that sheds moisture during activity.

Racerback designs free the shoulders for greater range of motion, and dropped armholes reduce chafing during arm swings, making them ideal for adventure runs and cycling. These cuts also sit flat for easy layering thanks to the lightweight, non-restrictive geometry.
