Women's Gray Hike & Camp Shorts

Short 4-inch inseams suit fast-paced trail runs and hot-weather trips where packability and breathability matter most, while mid 5–6 inch lengths are versatile for day hikes and scrambling. Longer 7–9 inch Bermudas give extra coverage on bushy trails, for biking, or when you want protection from sun and scratches.

Lightweight nylon or polyester blends with elastane offer the best quick-dry performance; many shorts use 94% nylon/6% elastane or an 86%/14% polyester/elastane blend. Ripstop weaves, water-repellent coatings, and UPF 50+ ratings add abrasion resistance and sun protection on long trail days.

Lined shorts with built-in briefs give chafe protection and modesty for longer outings, whereas classic unlined styles maximize airflow and pack small for hot weather. Compression or biker shorts work well as a base layer for high-output activities and fit snugly compared with looser trail cuts.

Articulated knees and gusseted crotches increase range of motion, and a high-rise waist helps keep shorts from slipping during steep climbs. Stretch fabrics with spandex blends and reinforced seams—found in models like Outdoor Research Ferrosi—boost durability and multi-activity comfort.

Many trail shorts offer 4–6 pockets with some zippered compartments to keep small items secure; REI Trailmade shorts, for example, include six pockets plus water resistance on a 5-inch inseam. Built-in belts and roll-up hems add practical, on-trail convenience without weighing you down.
