Women's Purple Balaclavas & Neck Gaiters

A balaclava is best for frigid, windy winter activities like skiing or snowboarding when you need full face, ear, and neck coverage and plan to wear it under a helmet. Neck gaiters suit milder cold, running, or hiking because they offer breathability and quick adjustability as a face mask, headband, or beanie.

Materials like lightweight polyester or Merino wool are great for moisture-wicking, while fleece midweights (around 150gsm) add noticeable warmth. These fabrics pull sweat away and pack down small, so a Merino or polyester gaiter can work for running in cool weather or multi-day trips.

Most designs use high-elasticity geometry and elastic yarns to achieve a snug, one-size-fits-most fit without feeling constrictive. That stretch also makes them easy to pull on and off and lets you reposition them over your ears, cheeks, or neck as needed.

Vented balaclavas with face and nose vents improve breathability and reduce moisture buildup during hard efforts, and flip-up Storm Flaps let you open airflow without removing the layer. Models like the Turtle Fur quattroClava illustrate this approach by combining full coverage with targeted venting for skiing or running.

Yes—many gaiters and balaclavas come with UPF ratings for sun protection and reflective yarns for low-light visibility. Buff-style gaiters often pair thermal or reflective yarns with lightweight, packable construction so you can use them for all-season running or beach sun protection.
