Green Telemark Bindings

Classic 75mm three-pin and cable bindings keep a true free-heel and use 75mm-wide toe plates, making them lighter and more efficient for backcountry touring. NTN and full-frame designs lock the boot at the front and under the sole for greater rotational stiffness and downhill control, while TTS pin options sit between touring efficiency and resort performance.

Boot fit is non-negotiable: 75mm and most cable bindings require boots with a 75mm toe plate, while NTN needs dedicated NTN boots with the proper inserts, often Dynafit-style on newer models. TTS bindings specifically need NTN boots fitted with tech fittings so the pin mechanism can engage properly—mixing systems risks poor performance and safety.

If you prioritize light weight and uphill efficiency, classic 75mm three-pin or simple cable bindings are the usual choice because they preserve strong free-heel motion and low system weight. Brands and series like the Voile Switchback illustrate that design focus, though note some cable bindings such as the Rottefella Freeride trade a bit of range (around 30 degrees) for more heel-lift resistance.

Pivot location and ramp angle change how energy transfers into the ski—moving the pivot forward usually makes a binding feel quicker and more responsive, while a rearward pivot softens the feel. Stance geometry and design choices like full-frame NTN construction also increase rotational stiffness, and some free-pivot designs offer range of motion exceeding 45 degrees for a looser telemark feel.

Yes, the 7tm is noted as the only telemark binding with a TUV-certified safety release system, and release behavior varies by model (some release sideways under lateral load). Many modern bindings also include corrosion-resistant metals, integrated stoppers, or step-in mechanisms to improve usability without dramatically increasing weight.
