Black Synthetic Sleeping Bags

Mummy bags are best for backpacking, mountaineering, and bikepacking because the tapered geometry minimizes dead air space for better warmth-to-weight efficiency. Rectangular bags suit car or basecamping in milder weather, while semi-rectangular styles balance roomy comfort with improved insulation; many use polyester fills that hold warmth when damp.

For typical three-season use, look for EN/ISO limit ratings around 20°F to handle cool nights without freezing conditions. If you run cold, choose a bag with a lower comfort rating or higher fill weight toward the 2–3 lb range; Marmot models often showcase extra loft for chillier temps.

Synthetic bags retain more loft when wet and dry faster than down because of polyester fibers like Polarguard 3D or Primaloft. Many designs also use hybrid synthetic-down on the bottom for added ground moisture resistance, so brands like Kelty and NEMO are good picks for damp climates.

Match bag length to your height by choosing regular or long lengths so you avoid cold spots at the feet, and pay attention to girth for roomy movement. Women's-specific cuts provide narrower shoulders and wider hips for improved insulation, which helps maintain warmth without extra bulk.

Polarguard 3D is built for durability and retains loft in wet conditions, while Primaloft emphasizes lightness and compressibility for backpacking. Hybrid synthetic-down blends combine a down-like feel on the body with synthetic insulation on the bottom for ground moisture resistance, as seen in lightweight designs like the NEMO Tensor.
