Brown Ski Helmets & Goggles

Hard shell/ABS helmets are best for aggressive freeride and high-impact scenarios, while in-mold polycarbonate with EPS foam gives all-mountain riders a lighter, versatile option. Soft shell helmets with EPP absorb low-speed impacts in park settings, and hybrid shells balance weight and protection—models like the Smith Vantage MIPS illustrate that mix.

For variable conditions, photochromic lenses that adapt to changing light help keep you comfortable and spherical lenses reduce distortion. Category 0 (around 80% VLT) is great for heavy snow or low light, category 3 works well for sunny days with pink/amber tints to boost contrast, and category 4 (about 3% VLT) is for glaciers or extreme brightness.

Try helmets with adjustable retention systems for a snug, non-pinching fit that covers from the eyebrows to the nape, and use sizing charts (S 51–55cm, M 55–59cm, L 59–63cm) as a starting point. Make sure your goggles seat flush against the helmet with no gaps and consider low-bridge fit or extra foam if you have high cheekbones; one-size goggle options can simplify pairing.

Yes, MIPS liners can reduce rotational forces by up to 40% in certified models, which helps mitigate angled impacts. You should also look for CE EN 1077B certification to ensure impact energy limits and FIS approval if you need race-compliant protection or chin-guard designs.

If you ride backcountry, look for lightweight in-mold designs like the POC Obex BC MIPS that prioritize weight savings and advanced brain protection. Park riders benefit from soft shell EPP helmets that damp vibrations, while racers should choose FIS-approved race helmets with chin guards or robust models such as the Sweet Protection Trooper 2Vi MIPS with audio-compatible pads.
