Thicker tape increases the effective bar diameter, so a 2.5–3mm wrap will slightly alter reach and leverage compared with a 1.5mm racing profile. If precise steering matters, thinner 1.5–2mm PU or microfiber tapes help preserve handling and bar feedback.

Most rolls come in 80–220cm lengths, which covers standard 38–44cm drops, but wide or flared gravel bars often require extra tape. Some gravel-specific tapes are 10–20% longer to accommodate flared drops, so plan on an extended roll or a second set for very wide bars.

PU outer finishes are water resistant and wipe down easily, making them a low-maintenance choice after wet rides. Models like Lizard Skins DSP V2 (2.5mm) pair durable PU with a grippy finish that stands up to mud and repeated cleaning.

EVA foam and cork blends excel at long-distance comfort by damping road buzz and reducing pressure points during multi-hour efforts. For plush options consider Fizik Vento Solocush (2.7mm) or Ergon BT Gravel, both designed with foam or gel inserts to help prevent numbness on long tours.
