Blue Road Drop Handlebars

Think about your riding: compact bars with a short reach (about 70–80mm) and shallow drop suit endurance or less flexible riders, while regular drops offer three versatile hand positions for racing, climbing, and general road use. Flare bars angle outward at the drops to add stability on rough roads or gravel.

Match bar width to your shoulder width and terrain: road riders often pick around 420mm while gravel riders step toward the 440–460mm end for extra stability. Widths typically span 360–460mm, with wider bars improving control on rough pavement and mixed surfaces.

Carbon bars tend to be lighter and better at absorbing vibration; many carbon drops come in under 250g, so they can make long rides feel smoother. 7000-series aluminum is more crash-tolerant and durable, though it usually transmits more road buzz and often weighs 250–350g.

For mixed riding, a moderate flare (around 21–24 degrees) with a shallow-to-moderate drop (about 100–102mm) balances comfort and control. Models like the Ritchey VentureMax with a 24-degree flare and a 102mm drop are designed to improve stability on gravel without sacrificing hood-position comfort.

Most modern stems accept the standard 31.8mm clamp diameter used on many drop bars, and models like the Thomson 7000-series are built to that spec. Verify your stem clamp diameter and plan hood placement and elbow bend in the drops; measuring hood position ensures proper fit and cockpit reach.
