Brown Road Chains & Chain Guides

Full wraparound guides give top and bottom retention plus an integrated bash guard, ideal for downhill or enduro when you need maximum protection. Top-only guides are much lighter—around 40g for many direct-mount models—and work well for less extreme trail riding or bumpy roads where weight matters.

Match the guide's mount to your frame: ISCG-05 fits frames with three welded bottom-bracket tabs, direct mount needs a dedicated upper tab, and BB-mounted units slot between the shell and an external cup. Also check chainring size and chainline on your 1x drivetrain to ensure smooth operation.

Yes—these guides are designed around 1x drivetrains and standard 9–12 speed chain widths, and they pair well with clutch derailleurs to reduce drops on rough trails. Adding a narrow-wide chainring helps engagement and improves overall retention in mixed terrain.

Plastic top-only guides commonly weigh about 40–50g, while full metal/plastic wraparounds typically range from 50–150g; carbon options can shave roughly 20–50g off those numbers. Consider whether a lighter BB-mount upper under 60g fits your priorities for climbs and overall bike weight.

They can add bulk, so verify chainring-to-guide alignment and frame clearance before committing to a full guide. Rigid constructions that mix metal mounting surfaces with high-impact plastic guides—like robust ISCG-05 wraparounds—handle enduro impacts well but need precise setup to avoid rubbing.
