Match the seatpost diameter to your frame’s seat tube—common MTB sizes include 30.9mm and 34.9mm, with 27.2mm on some gravel bikes and 31.6mm on older frames. Also confirm insertion depth and overall length (many MTB posts span 300–400mm) so you don’t bottom out.

If you ride aggressive trail or enduro, aim for larger travel like 150–200mm; 100–150mm often covers general trail and mixed-terrain use. Options such as the PNW Loam or 30.9mm hydraulic models with about 150mm drop are a common compromise for versatility and reliable actuation.

Suspension seatposts can noticeably reduce hand and spine fatigue on long gravel or bikepacking routes by absorbing vibrations with internal coil springs or elastomers. Standard bolt clamps give a more secure, consistent hold and are usually preferred when using carbon or lightweight posts, while quick-release clamps let you adjust saddle height on the fly without tools. Verify the clamp matches your tube diameter and suits the post material—aluminium clamps are common for durability.
