Men's Gray Synthetic Insulation Jackets

Synthetic jackets are best when you expect wet, high-output days because they retain warmth when wet, unlike down. Look for DWR-treated nylon shells and fills like Primaloft Gold 133 gsm (55% recycled) to balance warmth and moisture resistance.

Most synthetic jackets run true, but choose athletic slim for next-to-skin use or regular roomy if you plan bulky layers. Check for body-mapped stretch panels, articulated sleeves, drop tails, and helmet-compatible hoods to preserve mobility and fit during activity.

For many winter pursuits, a midweight fill like 130g or CLO ratings around 2.2–3.1 balances warmth and mobility, and the Rab Xenair with 130g is a versatile all-rounder. Heavier fills suit static cold conditions, while lighter, more breathable insulators work better for cross-country skiing and winter running.

Expect synthetic fills to lose some loft after many washes and extended use, so follow care labels and avoid hot, aggressive washing cycles. Constructions using Climashield Apex continuous filament or stitch-free baffles resist compression better, but synthetics will still show more long-term degradation than down.

Look for underarm vents, breathable shells, and body-mapped insulation that reduces bulk on the sides so heat can escape during hard efforts. Packability into a pocket, windproof fronts, and lightweight options like Marmot WarmCube models help keep you comfortable on technical, damp days.
