A drysuit should leave room for a thermal base layer while keeping a close, articulated cut that won’t restrict your stroke or hip rotation. NRS sizing generally runs true, so check inseam and chest measurements and try layers on to confirm reach and comfort.

HydroSkin 0.5 is a 0.5mm neoprene layer that gives light insulation for roughly 60–75°F water and can feel compressive, so it’s ideal when you need warmth and mobility. A dry top keeps you dry with waterproof-breathable fabrics and is a better pick for wet, cold conditions where staying dry matters more than neoprene insulation.

Premium GORE-TEX Pro suits like the Kokatat Meridian use taped seams and durable stretch panels and offer about 20,000mm waterproofing with roughly 15,000g/m²/24hr breathability, which helps in true cold-immersion scenarios. They are built for durability and protection on surfskis or extended kayak touring where waterproofing and venting are critical.

Paddle wetshoes provide secure footing and toe protection while allowing water to drain—models such as the NRS Paddle Wetshoe include drainage ports to shed water quickly. Wetsocks add a thin neoprene layer for insulation and a snug fit, so try them with the shoe to ensure comfort on abrasive, uneven surfaces.

For long days on the water, choose quick-dry synthetics and thermals with UPF 50+ to combine sun protection and moisture management. Lightweight performance tops or a breathable hoodie layered over a base layer gives stretch and temperature control as conditions change.
