Men's Green Gaiters

For trail running and summer hiking, over-the-ankle or low gaiters are usually the right choice because they keep pebbles and debris out without adding bulk. Models like the REI Co-op Flash Gaiters or Kahtoola INSTAgaiters are designed for that use and stay light and breathable.

Alpine or full-length mountaineering gaiters give the coverage you need for deep snow, ice, and extreme cold by sealing well over boot cuffs and pants. Brands such as Black Diamond, Berghaus, and Kenetrek make heavy-duty options with reinforced construction and insulation for harsh winter use.

Start by matching low-cut or high-cut sizes to your leg length and the height of your boots, then check the attachment system — nylon-webbing instep straps with metal buckles or boot lace hooks provide secure anchoring. A strong Velcro closure strip along the front helps fine-tune the fit so the gaiter stays weathertight over varied pant types.

Waterproof, breathable fabrics are ideal in wet weather because they shed rain while letting moisture vapor escape; Gore-Tex membranes like those in the Kahtoola LEVAgaiter Mid GTX are a good example. For drier, three-season use a water-resistant nylon with lighter construction will prioritize breathability and lower weight.

If reducing pack weight is a priority on long treks, ultralight over-the-ankle or mid-calf gaiters can save ounces and still block mud and grit. For bushwhacking, hunting, or snowy backcountry routes you may prefer heavy-duty models like the Outdoor Research Crocodile or the Sahara, which emphasize durable nylon, dense boot straps, and tougher Velcro closures.
