Men's Yellow Fleece Jackets

Start by matching activity intensity to fleece weight. Ultralight microfleece under 200 gsm suits running and high-output aerobic pursuits, while midweight fleece (200–300 gsm) works well as a hiking mid-layer. Heavyweight fleece over 300 gsm functions better as standalone insulation in very cold conditions.

Grid fleece uses a checkerboard-style pattern that traps warmth while exposing skin to airflow, giving superior breathability and quick drying for fast hiking or climbing. Polartec Power Grid models often feature 0.8–2.0mm grid heights and can deliver 15–25% higher thermal efficiency with MVTR ratings above 8,000 g/m²/24h. That structure makes them ideal for high-output days when moisture management matters.

Most people opt for an athletic or technical fit if they plan to layer under a shell, since trim geometries reduce bulk and improve mobility; brands like Arc'teryx offer those trim fits for alpine use. If you prefer to wear the fleece alone, choose a regular or relaxed fit and check shoulder width and torso length to avoid restricted arm movement.

Windproof fleece adds a membrane or tighter knit that blocks wind while maintaining some breathability, making it useful on exposed ridgelines and windy commutes. Expect tighter knits or bonded membranes to reduce heat loss with only modest impacts on moisture management, and Outdoor Research designs many technical fleeces with that balance in mind.

High-pile or high-loft fleece is best for low-activity situations where plush loft traps air and provides cozy, static warmth, though long-pile styles may pill without post-finishing. Heavyweight fleece (over 300 gsm) offers greater compression resilience and works better as a standalone insulating layer in very cold conditions.
