Black Headlamps

Flood beams are best for close-up tasks around camp like cooking or gear repair, while spot beams concentrate light for trail navigation and longer reaches of 50–150 meters. Multi-beam lights give both patterns so you can switch for hunting, emergencies, or mixed conditions.

Rechargeable models suit frequent, eco-conscious users and often feature USB charging and higher sustained output; lithium-ion packs can provide 20+ hours on high in some lights. For remote trips, battery-powered or hybrid options like the Petzl Actik Core let you swap in AAA cells when charging isn’t available.

Adjustable straps and pivoting lamp heads (typically 90–180 degrees) make it easy to mount a light on a helmet or hat, and breathable nylon or silicone bands stay secure and comfortable. Ultra-light designs under 3 ounces—such as the Nitecore NU25 at 28g—reduce helmet bounce for long climbs or trail runs.

In wet conditions, pick a light rated IPX4 or higher for heavy rain; IPX8 models survive submersion to about 1–2 meters for added protection. Rugged plastic housings and drop resistance to 1–2 meters are common features on durable models like the Black Diamond Spot 400 with IPX8.

For most hiking and campsite tasks, 200–400 lumens provides a good balance of brightness and battery life for trails and close work. Check runtime specs since lights vary widely—from 2 to 200 hours across modes—and battery types like AAA can offer up to about 100 hours on low.
