Green Gravel & Cyclocross Wheels & Parts

Think about your typical routes and tire sizes: 700c offers more stability over obstacles, while 650b gives extra agility and maneuverability. Also confirm rim internal widths of 19 to 25 mm support tires from about 32 mm up to 50 mm so you can run lower pressures for traction.

Many riders prefer tubeless-ready rims for gravel because tubeless setups improve puncture resistance and let you run lower pressures for better grip. Clinchers with tubes still work fine for casual riding, and tubulars remain common in cyclocross; higher TPI tire casings generally indicate a more supple, higher-quality feel when paired with tubeless setups.

Check your frame and fork specs for axle type and hub spacing so you match thru-axle standards and disc brake hub spacing. Pay attention to sealed bearings and hub tech—options like DIRECT ENGAGEMENT give quick engagement, and confirming rotor fit and spacing prevents annoying compatibility issues.

Carbon fiber rims are lighter and often more responsive, as seen on models like the Shimano WH-RX880 which uses 32mm-deep carbon and weighs around 1461g per pair. Aluminum builds such as Rinasclta are generally tougher against repeated impacts, so pick carbon for weight and stiffness or aluminum when durability and crash resistance matter more.

Prioritize mud clearance, a narrow bed for quick shedding, and durability for off-road impacts; mud-shedding designs and wide beds help with stability and cleaning mud during a race. Wheels with reinforced spokes or 24-spoke builds and robust hubs, like Superteam cyclocross sets, are popular because they balance strength, agility, and quick engagement on technical courses.
