Girls' Purple Rain & Wind Jackets

Think about the weather and activity: lightweight shells are highly packable and breathable for school commutes, light hikes, and play. Waterproof hardshells with taped seams and higher waterproof ratings (around 10,000mm) are better for heavy downpours and windy trails; models like the REI Co-op Rainier are a good example of a very packable shell.

Synthetic insulation performs well when jackets get damp because it retains warmth even when wet, while down-filled jackets offer the best warmth-to-weight but can lose loft if soaked. For versatile winter use, a 2-in-1 system like The North Face Triclimate with a removable down inner and a waterproof outer gives both insulation and protection.

When sizing, leave room for a midlayer and consult brand-specific charts—kids sizes typically run XS to XL and cover ages 4–16. Also check for practical fit features like articulated sleeves, pre-curved elbows, drop-tail hems, and adjustable or grow cuffs to extend wear as she grows.

Yes — packable rain shells are ideal for stashing in a backpack or locker; lightweight options like the REI Co-op Rainier pack down to about 4 oz and breathe well during activity. Be aware they often have lower waterproof ratings (commonly 5,000–10,000mm) and less reinforcement than heavier hardshells, so they’re not the best choice for prolonged, heavy storms.

Prioritize tight-weave, windproof fabrics with solid breathability (roughly 5,000–15,000 g/m²/24 hrs) so you stay warm without overheating during activity. Features like fleece-lined panels for warmth, pit zips for ventilation, articulated sleeves for mobility, and bright colors or reflectors improve comfort and visibility on rides or runs.
