Yellow Gels

For sustained high-intensity efforts, look for gels that deliver quick carbs and electrolytes; GU Energy Gel, for example, packs around 100 calories and 20–25 g carbs per packet to keep energy steady. These single-serve pouches are designed for on-the-go fueling during hard rides or long runs.

Salted gels are ideal when heat and heavy sweating increase your sodium needs; options like the Carbs Fuel Salted Energy Gels provide about 50 g fast-absorbing carbs and roughly 450 mg sodium per serving. They help replace electrolytes quickly and can reduce cramp risk during sweaty endurance efforts.

Caffeinated gels such as Roctane add a stimulant boost and are formulated for longer events, offering higher 100-calorie servings with enhanced electrolytes to support prolonged performance. The caffeine can aid alertness and support fat-burning during races that extend beyond two hours.

Yes, most gels come in 1-ounce single-serve pouches with tear-open tops designed for one-handed use, and the flexible, non-sticky plastic fits easily in a jersey pocket. Liquid gel formats, like some Science in Sport options in 12-packs, are also made for mess-free consumption while moving.

Gels with clean ingredient lists—complex carbs, amino acids, electrolytes, and antioxidants—tend to digest smoothly and offer stable shelf life, and many options avoid preservatives or artificial flavors. Brand-specific formulations, such as Krono Nutrition gels sold in boxes of 24, highlight those cleaner ingredient blends for better gut tolerance on long efforts.
