Gray Gear Transport

When selecting a ski bag, allow room for bindings and padding — look for lengths up to 200 cm for most adult skis. Consider a backpack-haul hybrid geometry if you need both rolling and shoulder carry for transfers.

Many cyclists prefer Pro-Lite models for flying because their lightweight 8 lb design pairs well with tough protection. These cases often accept frames up to a 60 cm wheelbase and include padded interiors to keep components secure.

Expect surfboard bags made from durable nylon or polyester with UV-resistant coatings to handle salty, sunny beaches, and some models carry an IPX4 water-resistance rating. Rinse and dry your bag after use, and choose reinforced PVC bottoms if you plan to set boards on abrasive sand or rocks.

For technical alpine climbs, backpack-style haul bags with padded shoulder straps and minimized bulk are usually better on steep trails. If you need heavy-duty transport for basecamp, burly 420D nylon models like Patagonia haul bags add grit with daisy chains and reinforced construction.

Good travel cases combine up to 20 mm EVA foam padding with double-stitched seams and reinforced PVC bottoms to protect gear from impacts and abrasion. You’ll also see heavy-duty YKK zippers rated for a 30 lb pull force and designs that balance protection with an empty weight of about 5 to 15 lbs.
