Boys' Yellow Hike & Camp Pants

Measure your child's waist and allow room to layer by sizing up when needed; XS fits about a 22–23" waist while XL fits about 27–29". Pants with gusseted crotches and articulated knees help prevent bagging as kids grow and move.

Pick convertible zip-off pants for multi-day treks or big temperature swings since they convert to shorts for hot afternoons. For warm, high-breathability trails a lightweight pant with 10k–20k MVTR or models like the Prana Stretch Zion (98% nylon/2% spandex) tends to feel breezier.

Softshell pants work well in windy or light-rain shoulder-season conditions because they block wind and shed moisture better than typical stretch pants. Many softshells also use DWR finishes that last 20–50 washes and include abrasion-resistant panels at the knees for campsite wear.

Durability features include reinforced knees and cuffs, ripstop panels, and double-stitched seams to resist rocks and thorns. Extra bartack reinforcements and kickpatch cuffs are common on rugged cargos, and fabrics are often abrasion-tested to over 10,000 cycles.

On day hikes, trail pants balance water repellency and airflow with DWR-treated fabrics and 10k–20k MVTR breathability so they shrug off light showers while staying ventilated. If you want high breathability plus eco materials, Patagonia Quandary offers 20k MVTR and 100% recycled nylon.
