Red Bike Locks

Chain locks are ideal in high-crime areas because their flexible, hardened-steel links let you secure around trees or multiple bikes. U-locks also work well when you can avoid excess space; pick one with thicker shackles (about 10–16mm) and solid construction for better resistance.

Measure the gap between your frame and the anchor and choose a U-lock that closes with minimal empty space to reduce leverage. Many U-locks come in different lengths and shackle thicknesses, so aim for a fit that keeps the frame snug while still accommodating the post.

Folding locks are usually a smarter commuter choice because they balance portability with hardened-steel segments and compact storage; models like the Hiplok Z Lok weigh under 2 lbs. Cables are lighter and fine for very low-risk areas or short stops, but they cut easily so treat them as a backup rather than your primary lock.

Sold Secure grades—from Bronze through Diamond—signal increasing resistance to tools and attack time, with Diamond offering the longest protection; top-rated models can withstand angle-grinder attacks for roughly 1–5 minutes. Use Gold or Diamond-rated locks in higher-theft areas and consider features like double deadbolts or hardened steel for extra durability.

Yes — a cable is handy as a secondary deterrent to secure wheels or accessories and to slow down quick grab-and-run thefts. Pair it with a stronger primary lock, such as the Litelok X1 or a U-lock with a thicker shackle (about 10–16mm), because cables cut easily on their own.
