Green Bike Fenders & Racks

Think about how much coverage you need and how often you want them on your bike. Full-length polycarbonate fenders with two pairs of stays, like the SKS Bluemels, give maximum protection for commuting, while clip-on styles fit aero forks and are easy to remove, and minimalist rear fenders save weight for fast road or gravel rides.

Yes, many modern fenders are disc-brake compatible and clip-on designs are useful where aero forks limit traditional mounts. Models such as the SKS Bluemels are made for disc setups, and clip-on or seatpost-mounted options can avoid fork mounting issues.

Racks with flat center sections provide some splash protection but often don’t replace true fenders and can limit where stays attach. Look for racks and fenders described as fender-compatible, and check that the rack leaves enough space at the chainstay and seatstay bridges for full-length mounting.

Measure your tire width and compare it to the fender’s available widths to ensure adequate clearance without rubbing during suspension or compression. Many polycarbonate fenders come in multiple widths, and options like the SKS Speedrocker are designed to cover wider gravel and cyclocross tires.

For minimal weight and easy install, consider compact rear fenders and foldable designs made from lightweight plastic or composite materials. The Ass Savers Win Wing 2 is a popular minimalist choice, and Mucky Nutz foldable pieces or the adjustable SKS X-Tra Dry offer lightweight protection with simple mounting.
