Frequently Asked Questions

• What sets Skratch Labs apart from other sports-nutrition brands?

Skratch Labs was founded by exercise physiologist Dr. Allen Lim and focuses on real‑food ingredients with minimal processing, avoiding artificial sweeteners, isolates, colors, and preservatives. The brand emphasizes lower sweetness for easier in-activity consumption, lab-tested formulations like Cluster Dextrin™ blends, and active collaboration with elite athletes to translate research into practical products.
• What is Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin (Cluster Dextrin™) and why does Skratch use it?

Cluster Dextrin™ is a highly branched cyclic dextrin carbohydrate that’s formulated to be rapidly absorbed while minimizing gastrointestinal distress during hard efforts. Skratch incorporates it in high-carbohydrate mixes (e.g., Super High Carb) to deliver concentrated energy without the heavy sweetness or stomach issues typical of some dense carbohydrate solutions.
• What product types does Skratch Labs make and when should I use each?

Skratch Labs offers hydration drink mixes for electrolyte balance, high‑carbohydrate drink mixes (like Super High Carb) for prolonged or ultra‑intense efforts, energy chews and bars for convenient solid fuel, and recovery mixes for post‑exercise refueling. Choose hydration mixes for maintaining sweat electrolytes, high‑carb liquids when you can’t stomach solids during long efforts, and chews/bars for easy on‑the‑go carbohydrate top‑ups.
• How does Skratch’s Super High Carb mix differ from a standard sports drink?

Super High Carb is formulated as a concentrated fuel source with substantially more carbohydrates and electrolytes per serving than typical sports drinks, providing a high‑calorie, high‑carbohydrate option designed for athletes who can’t consume enough calories from solids mid‑effort. It also leans on Cluster Dextrin™ and a less‑sweet flavor profile to improve digestibility during sustained high intensity.
• How has Skratch Labs validated its formulas with athletes and research?

Skratch Labs describes a program of lab and field testing, including a multi‑month development and testing period with athletes such as Gwen Jorgensen and the Education First (EF) Pro Cycling Team, and it serves as USA Cycling’s official hydration partner through 2026. That combination of exercise‑physiology input and pro‑team feedback informs product iterations and real‑world performance tuning.
