Leatt

Frequently Asked Questions

• What sets Leatt apart from other rider-protection brands?

Leatt is a South African protection specialist with over 20 years focused on rider safety and an integrated-system approach that designs helmets, neck braces, and body armor to work together. The company supports its innovations with biomechanical research, more than 30 patents and thousands of impact tests, and develops signature technologies like 360° Turbine and ReaFlex to reduce impact forces.
• How does Leatt’s 360° Turbine Technology reduce rotational and linear forces in a crash?

360° Turbine Technology uses low-density turbine pads inside the helmet liner to absorb and redirect rotational energy, which studies have shown can reduce peak brain acceleration by up to about 30% and rotational acceleration by up to about 40% at concussion-related impact speeds. These turbine pads are integrated into several Leatt helmets to help manage both linear and rotational loading without compromising fit or ventilation.
• What is ReaFlex impact gel and where is it used in Leatt protection?

ReaFlex is a soft, pliable impact gel that stiffens under high-impact loading to disperse energy; it’s commonly used in Leatt knee guards and other soft-shell protectors. The material provides a low-profile, breathable fit with targeted coverage, and is paired with mesh and silicone grippers to stay in place during aggressive riding.
• How does Leatt’s integrated system approach improve overall rider safety?

Leatt designs helmets, neck braces, and body armor to function as a coordinated protection system—features like breakaway visors, goggle docks, and brace compatibility aim to control energy transfer across linked components. Biomechanical testing of this approach shows substantial reductions in neck and spinal loading, and Leatt cites neck brace data indicating markedly fewer neck injuries and lower spinal injury fatalities when used as part of a system.
