Backland 109 Ski is built for powder-heavy terrain and long touring days

What Our Gearhead® Experts Are Saying

"If I'm heading out in the Western Cascades or anywhere that gets real snow, the Backland 109 is what I'm strapping on. The 109mm waist floats effortlessly in deep days, and the powder rocker profile makes turn initiation feel almost automatic. It still climbs well for its width — the woodcore keeps the weight honest. I've taken it on long tours and technical descents and it handles both without complaint."

Advanced to Expert Powder-Focused Tourers

The Backland 109 suits intermediate-to-advanced skiers who regularly ski in high-snowfall zones and want a touring ski that prioritizes powder performance without becoming a liability on the climb. It fits skiers in the Western US, Canada, and anywhere deep days are the norm rather than the exception.

Powder and Alpine Touring Terrain

Designed for snow-heavy backcountry, the Backland 109 thrives in deep, untracked powder and steep technical lines. The 25/50/25 rocker-camber-rocker profile gives it more float and easier turn initiation in soft snow than a traditional all-mountain tourer.

Powder-Tuned Build on the Proven Backland Platform

The Backland 109 runs the same Ultra Light Woodcore of poplar and caruba as the rest of the Backland series, paired with a reduced fiberglass and resin layup that cuts carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 26%. The Dura Cap Sidewall keeps it responsive and durable, while the HRZN 3D contoured tips and tails help it move through powder and hold on steeper pitches. At 109mm underfoot, it carries more float than the 102 but stays manageable on longer skin tracks.

How It Works

Applied By Backcountry Techs
Backcountry technicians treat and UV-cure every pair in the shop before it leaves the warehouse, so the skis arrive ready to ride with no setup required.

Glide That Outlasts Wax
Wax sits on top of the base and wears off in a few days. Phantom Glide bonds into the base, so glide stays fast and consistent from cold powder to spring slush.

No More Wax Days
Phantom Glide replaces scraping, ironing, and shop visits with a quick base cleaning using the Phantom Glide Base Care Kit. The formula is made without PFAS.
