Why We Like The Tag LT Approach Shoe
The Tag LT Approach Shoe has impressed us because of its packability—making it ideal for moving quickly in the alpine. The shoes feature the climbing-specific features you’d expect from Black Diamond, including a high-performance rubber sole for technical climbing and reinforced TPU zones in the upper for durability. The shoes also include a compression strap to fit around the shoes once you’ve started climbing, and the heel loops are specifically designed to strap onto your harness, just as you’d carry a cam.

$145 retail? These things have the integrity of Converse All-Stars with a thin approach shoe sole. I got these 40 percent off ($87) and I still think I overpaid. If you plan to actually wear these for anything beside them being clipped to your harness for 90 percent of the day and then putting them on for descents (the only thing I plan to use them for), I'd expect them to last about three months of actually walking around in them before they're destroyed. And the sizing: I wear a 10.5 shoe for everything on the planet that I've put on my feet in the last 20 years ... but a 9.5 in these. I'd skip these if you have ambitious plans of walking around in these shoes.

WELL Normally I wear 11.5 in most shoes like vans for example, and sized down to an 11 in these approach shoes for a tighter fit. Turns out you need to size down an entire size to size and a half, as I need a 10.5 and that would still be on the somewhat looser side still. ALSO Planned on using these for actual approaches/scrambling on granite and the back of the shoe sits way to low on the heel. Even with the right size it seems like it would be pretty insecure with your heel wanting to pop out. BUT Shoe Material is nice and the rubber seems good and sticky. Both shoes together are lightweight.
