Best headlamp on the market
Fantastic piece of hardware, as with all black diamond equipment built to withstand the harshest conditions. Love having a choice of multiple low light colors, sometimes the red is just not quite enough so having blue or green is great. Would recommend this product to any one! Thanks BD

I feel like a shark with a freaking laser beam on my head
I live in Alaska and this winter was particularly brutal and cold. I used to be locked in watching Netflix and drinking all winter… and then I bought this light. I found all the loose change in my couch with this new found light source. I could afford xc ski’s with the change. Using my skis and becoming more active I gave up drinking and started geocaching. I have seen so many parts of my hometown with a new light, pun intended. It has allowed me to romanticize and fall back in love with the outdoors instead of netflix and chillin’. But now that it’s summer and sunny all the time it also works as a bottle opener to crush some frosty boys on an evening walk. Still a great investment. I am no longer afraid of the dark or winter.

Very cool
The new features and increased output make this a nice update to the icons I have used in the past

Turns off when shaken
This headlamp has a tendency to turn off whenever you jump or hit a bump while skiing. The issue seems to be loss connections b/t the AA batteries and the terminal at the top of the battery pack. If you shake it, you can hear a little wiggle in there, as if it all needs to be tightened up a bit. For a year or so, the problem was manageable by pushing the battery pack cap in tight and restarting. Then the battery pack unit started to develop small cracks in it (cheap plastic) which made the problem much worse. Overall, this productive is illustrative of the multiple troubles I've had over the years with BD lighting. Better to look to Petzl for lighting stuff.

Icon 700
I bought one headlamp and the rechargeable pack as a gift for a friend who helped me out a lot after my wife died. I haven’t gotten it to him yet but if I get any feedback, I’d be happy to share it. I used mine the other night under my Seattle sombrero blowing snow during our blizzard here in Madison WI. It worked well, It was comfortable and I could get my hat over it, which was a bonus, considering the conditions. It’s a nice piece of equipment.

Removable battery pack
My question is, how do you reconnect the head straps once you take the battery pack off? I bought this just because of that feature so the batteries would stay warm. Help

What happened to Black Diamond?
I was so excited for a nice new premium headlamp from a trusted manufacturer. I rely on my gear extensively and it needs to be reliable. The ‘main’ light is bright, but the good stops there. The quality is anbsolutely abysmal - the fit and finish is garbage, the cheap injection molded plastic feels so chintzy, the mechanism for closing the battery is obviously a weak point and poorly designed, and it is flickering out of the box. I can’t rely on gear that’s built to a price. Stick to other manufacturers if you want a quality headlamp. Should have read the reviews before I purchased. I’ll be returning.

This is the premier headlamp on the market. I bought my first one for multi-day kayaking expeditions and trail running before daylight. The choice of colors is ideal for maritime use and USCG safety regulations, and the brightest setting is great for spotting or shining for fish, alligators, wildlife to be aware of. I’ve now purchased my second to use camping, and keep my original in my PFD. The unit holds a charge for hours of continual use. I use rechargeable AAs. A top piece of equipment in my gear bag!

Battery box
The reliability of a system is determined by its least reliable part - the tiny piece of plastic that secures the top of the battery pack snugly in place. Everything else is great - previous iterations it was the screw cracking the battery box case cover. It's soooo close to perfect - except for that.

Bright, but Not Durable
I’ve had two separate Icons now and on both of them the battery pack ( specifically where the cap locks into the pack) has cracked due to use. BD replaced the first one, but it has happened again and I think I will go to a different headlamp at this point.
